Idoma International Carnival 2020 to Hold a Special Programme tagged 'OHIGBU ACHOLALO'

 

Due to the government and health experts directives on Coronavirus safety protocols on social distancing, ban on large gatherings, etc, the 2020 edition of Idoma  international carnival will not be at full scale. 

One of the core objectives of the carnival is to give back to society

The negative impact of covid19 has made life extremely difficult for people all over the world and the Idoma nation is not an exception. 

To  cushion the effect of the lockdown and to identify with our people, the Idoma International Carnival 2020 will hold a special programme tagged 'OHIGBU ACHOLALO' (for the sake of our people) to share palliatives to the most vulnerable and the poorest of the poor in Idoma Land.

The President of the  carnival,  Prince Edwin Ochai noted that the decision to tune down this year's Carnival was a painful one which was done after due consultation with various stakeholders of the annual event. 

He said "the Covid-19 pandemic has seriously affected every sector of the economy including the entertainment industry. He observed that, it will be insensitive to go ahead with the usual fanfare, the glitz and glamour to mark the Idoma International Carnival."

Prince Ochai further explained that activities such as street party, road shows, beauty pageant, and other activities associated with the Carnival shall not feature in the 2020 Carnival. The event will be on a low key in solidarity  with our people especially those who have lost loved ones during the period.

It should be recalled that, Idoma International Carnival which is an annual event in Otukpo, Benue State, started in 2013 as Agila Social and Economic Carnival, with the aim of showcasing to the world the rich cultural and economic potential of Idoma Nation through art, craft and social exhibitions. 

The carnival has been consistent in its mandate and aims of promoting, empowering and uniting the Idoma Nation across religious and political affiliations.

Cristiano Ronaldo has helped with the construction of many schools in Vietnam although he has never been there. He has also donated 3 million euros for the hunger victims in Africa. What a human being he is. 

Blessed with a soulful, multi – octave voice and a flair for leading God’s people in praise and worship, Anietie Bature, fondly called Annie is a contemporary Gospirational Artist, Song Writer, Insightful Blogger and Keynote Speaker, dedicated to extending the frontiers of the Gospel of Christ to the ends of the earth through music, blog posts, keynote speeches, inspirational products and resources.


She holds a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, a Masters Degree in Environmental Technology and Management from De Montfort University, Leicester, United Kingdom, and is currently serving as Music Director in the City of David, Eket (of the Redeemed Christian Church of God) and pursuing a career in the energy industry.


Anietie was born to Deaconess Dorcas and Late Mr. Patrick Umoffia, on November 2, 1980 in Calabar, Cross River State, and grew up as the youngest of seven. Typical of most great musical acts, she started off singing with a Church choir and a rapidly emerging children’s group named Shallom Kids, performing her first solo ”Jesus Wants Me For A Sun Beam” at about age seven at the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Efut Parish, Calabar.


Anietie’s performances continued on various platforms and choirs such as PinseKirken in Esbjerg, Denmark, Christian Unity Chapel Choir of FGGC Calabar, Family Worship Center Abuja, Lagos Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) and The Living Vessels (TLV) of FUT Minna, where she learnt how to write songs and experienced the most growth musically. She is also a pioneer member of the Prophetic Praise Summit (PPS), Abuja and has served as backup singer and worship leader in a number of these groups.


Anietie went on to develop a contemporary, Christian Pop, Hip Hop, R & B and Worship style that has won her critical acclamation and an expanding fan base both locally and internationally.


As one who stayed plugged in to music at different stages of her life, Anietie heard everything from Gospel legends Bob Fitts and the Maranatha Singers, Ron Kenoly, Shirley Caesar, Yolanda Adams, Panam Percy Paul, Andre Crouch, Ray Boltz to Karen Clark Sheard, Cece Winans, Darlene Zschech, Hillsong, Israel Houghton, Martha Munizi, The Tommies, amongst others. The influence of these gospel greats combined with family upbringing and a consistent participation in musical endeavors helped to shape her as a singer.




After many years of drawing inspiration from those that have gone before her as well as her own life experiences, she started composing her own songs. In 2004 she recorded her first single, and announced herself as professional with the release of her 12-track album titled ‘Revealed’ in August, 2013.


Anietie's evolution saw her progression in music coupled with her talent as an Ardent Blogger and her emergence as a Keynote Speaker. After several years of keeping the world waiting, the wife and mother of three kids has released a high – spirited smash hit single entitled ‘My Whole Life’, produced by iChek, as well as shot the music video, so is a potential album dropping soon? Only time will tell.

Appreciation Letter From Idoma Carnival President

I want to express my profound gratitude to the whole of Idoma nation and indeed people from all walks of life for your various contributions in one way or the other in making the 2017 edition of Idoma International carnival a huge success. It was a collective and colaborative effort which has shown that the carnival which began in 2013 as a little idea has grown to become a big voice and a rallying point for the whole of Idoma nation especially in the area of cultural reneisanse, showcasing and exposing our cultural heritage to the world, youth empowerment,tourism,  economic recovery, and and indeed a spring board to the much needed peace and unity without which there can
be no meaningful development in a dear land.
I also want to use this rare privilege to encourage our sons and daughters at home and in  diaspora and indeed their friends to come home every December, not just to savour the moment but to join hands to move Idomaland forward.
Even though it is very difficult to mention names of individuals and organisations who made the 2017 Idoma International carnival memorable,  I am compelled to single out Idoma National Forum led by its president, Bar Amali Adoya Amali and all the members, the cultural troupes from all the nine Local Governments in Idomaland, the chairman of Otukpo Local Government who doubles as the ALGON Chairman in Zone C of Benue State, members of the board of trustees,  Hero lager beer who were our major and number one sponsor and others too numerous to mention for want of time and space.
The journey to more memorable and bigger carnival in 2018 has begun and we invite all well meaning sons, daughters, friends of Idomaland,  and organisations to join the train as we are open to new ideas and innovations on how to move our land to the next level of development.
What we have started is not just an event or show but a movement that will translate into  tangible benefits .

 Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the 2017 FIFA footballer of the year in The Best awards ceremony held in London, England.


The 31 year old beat fellow finalist Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Neymar of Paris Saint-Germain.

In the second edition of FIFA's own, 'The Best' awards ceremony, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be the star of the gala. The two main awards recognise the best player and coach of the 2016/17 season, with Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane the favourites to take each respective honour.

Real Madrid should also have up to five representatives in the best XI of the season and Florentino Perez is set to be present at the ceremony in London on Monday afternoon.

 As a relatively new awards ceremony, Ronaldo won the first ever edition of the award last year and is set to retain his title. His return of ten goals in the last five matches of the Champions League campaign characterised his campaign, it catapulted Los Blancos to success in the tournament.

Zidane faces competition from Antonio Conte with the Italian fresh from winning the Premier League title in his debut season with Chelsea. The five Real individuals set to feature in the FIFPro XI are Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Cristiano.
